Back to Sunday

Sunday was another day we woke the girls early. This time in hopes of beating the heat. We planned to walk around to the different monuments, eat lunch and stay cool in the air conditioned museums in the afternoon. While the plan was good, I think this was the crabbiest day for the girls. Heat and lots of walking effected them greatly. What a difference air makes. :)
The monuments were beautiful and we took in the Washington Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial, and the Memorial for the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.  We also found some squirrels, ducks and geese on the way. We had our picnic in full view of the Washinton Monument before heading to the American History Museum. Unfortunetly, the pop culture area was being renovated and we weren't able to see Micheal Jackson's glove however, Dorothy's ruby slippers were still on display. They also had a small section of Girl Scout items both on display and in the museum store. We spent about a hour and 40 minutes there before making our way to the Natural History Museum. And while we enjoyed the American History Museum, it surely didn't compare to the Natural History Museum. Huge dinosaurs, a elephant and the Hope Diamond, what more could we ask for?!?!  We wondered around this museum for hours also. One of the things we thought about doing was taking a monuments at night tour but when asked, the girls were not interested. They vetoed it so quickly I didn't even get to mention it was on a trolley and not walking. Oh well, another time. We made our way back to Alexandria via the Franconia subway in about 35 minutes. Once back in the room, Kelly made everyone dinner of spaghetti, garlic bread and french fries. Dessert was apple pie after the pool, showers and getting ready for the next day. Our nightly ritual was those who weren't showering first, made their sandwiches for the next day while we got snacks ready. By Sunday night, we were a well oiled machine!!!
