High Roller

Cookie order form turn it took place on Friday, February 5th at High Roller in Eau Claire.  Admission was free with 3 non-perishable food items brought in.  While the girls skated and played in the play area, the adults talked about the New York trip.  It was nice that High Roller had Lady Liberty there for us.

Alex is really not this tall.  She has skates on.

Camp Nawakwa - journey retreat

As a group, the girls voted on completed their Journeys over the course of a weekend instead of the whole school year.  We talked about several options for where and as a joke, Alyssa said "not Camp Nawakwa"!  Previously, we spent an overnight at camp in November, 2014.  Long story short, it was a sleepless night of critters scampering in the rafters of the building and screaming girls.  But, her mention of it did give us the idea of day long retreat up there.  It was certainly more cost effective with the New York trip coming up.
So, we picked Saturday, January 2nd to spend the day together and complete most of the journey.  All that is remaining are their Take-Action projects which they have a good start on.

A little about the Journeys:
Each girl/troop is required to complete a Journey to be able to work on their awards.  At the Junior level, Mikayla and Marie are able to work on the Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn  In addition to the Journey, they each must complete 20 hours of work on the project of their choosing.  They are allowed to pick their own project or work on one as a group.  At the Senior level, Alyssa and Alex can work on their Gold Award.  This award requires a completed Journey or two if they didn't achieve their Bronze and Silver Awards, and a minimum of 80 hours on their project.  They must now select individual projects and find a project adviser to work with.  While the Bronze Award must be earned as a Junior, the Gold can be earned anytime while in high school and either a Senior or Ambassador Girl Scout.
