Meeting recap - March 17th

Thursday, we ventured across the street to Rachel's Place as part of the Caring for Children Badge.  The girls were broken down into groups to work with the 4 different age groups.  Emily and Amber worked with the infants.  Paige, Brianna, Abby and Hannah worked with the 2 and 3 year olds.  Selena, Rebecca, Taylor and Alyssa worked with the 4 year olds.  Alex, Ingrid, Allie, Maddy, Faith, and Ana helped the school-aged children.  Each of girls had brought a book to read to the kids.  The 4 year olds also did some puzzles and Memory.  2 and 3 year olds had some fun with blocks.  And, after playing some card games, the school aged children ended with some red light, green light.
Rachel's Place gave each of the girls a rice crispy treat that the school aged kids had made and all of our girls asked if they could go back again soon.  They all did such a wonderful job working with the kids!!

Cookies, Cookies Everywhere!!!

We picked up cookies at the CVTC parking lot this year.  Like last year, they had two semi's with two lines of vehicles.  With the amount of cookies we had, we had two appointment times back to back.  As we drive down the line, volunteers have counted out the number of cases and we load them.  This year the girls sold 2704 boxes of cookies.  The troop also ordered some extras to make our starting total 2787.

One of the three vehicles we used to transport the 231 cases to Maria's house for sorting.

Temps were much lower than last year's cookie sort.  We were very fortunate to have so many great helpers.  Extra special thank you to Katelyn and Kelly, Faith and Tammy, Ingrid and Cheri, Alyssa, Dave and Maria, Allie and Tina, Ana and Rachael.

In addition to helping sort, the girls were also helping with loading vehicles.  All of the cookies were sorted and picked-up in record time.  And over-all, we were off very few boxes.  Woo Hoo!!!!

Meeting recap - February 3rd

February 3rd, we focused mainly on making crafts from old cookie boxes.  Each box can make two note pad holders, one mini post-it holder, and one bookmark.  We will be using them at our cookie booths.  We have some finishing touches to take care of and the signs to make yet.  But then we will be all ready for our cookie booths.

Meeting Recap 1/20/11

Last night we talked all about COOKIES, COOKIES, COOKIES!!!
Our goal for the meeting was to discuss goals.  Personal, Service, and fun goals.
For our Service goals, the girls each wrote down an idea and then they voted.  Their ideas ended up basically into four main ideas.  Helping adults and children with cancer, helping animals, helping those who don't have food and helping those at a nursing home.  And, at the end of the vote, we had a tie!  Helping people with cancer and helping nursing home residents.  So, we decided to do both!!  Several wanted to help children with cancer so we talked about the possibility of collecting stuffed animals and/or making scarves and hats for them.  For the nursing home, the over-whelming choice was to do a talent show. We have also decided our donated cookies this year will go to the nursing home.
