Annie Photos

Photos from Annie are still coming.  The group one was very dark but I am hoping some of the other ones during intermission will be better.  Here's a dark sneak peak!

Meeting Recap 12/2

Thursday night, we continued to work on the "Looking your Best" badge.  We had planned to have 4 stations with different hands-on activites and a presenter from Willow Creek Women's Clinic.  But, after the first section, we went to listen to Linda.  She did a wonderful presentation about changes to their bodies and gave them some sheets to work on with another adult female and a booklet with some questions and answers and additional descriptions of the changes.  There were a few giggles from time to time from both the girls and the adults and there was a lot of quiet time with some intently listening girls.  I bet we could have had Linda there for a couple of hours as they asked some outstanding questions.  When we went back to our groups, we only had time for one more session so, the 5th graders went to Teeth and Face practice and the 4th graders worked on the daily grooming habits chart.  It did take a few minutes to get back to the booklet because they had more questions.  I think Linda did a great job of answering their questions and trying to make sure they knew they could talk to their parents, teachers or another adult they trusted.  Personally, we went home and Alex asked me questions for two more hours while we looked over the things Linda had given them.
I wish we had more time to go over the other areas we had planned.  Each of them is part of the booklet Theresa put together for us.
Our next meeting we will return to immediately following school for our Christmas party.  And, before you know it, it will be time for cookies!!!!!!  Mark your calendars for January 21st - February 6th!!!

Meeting Recap 11/18

Our meeting on the 18th took place at the State Theater for opening night of Annie!  We attended the play as part of our Theater badge.  The play consisted of many Annie classic scenes and some additional ones to adapt to the theater.  Our group took up two whole rows and had a great time.  We were able to see Ally before the play singing Christmas Carols.  And both Emily and Sarah Otto were part of the cast.  The play was incredible.  Everyone did an amazing job.
Until next time remember..... You're never fully dressed without a SMILE!!!

Meeting Recap 11/4

Today's meeting was a combination of two badges.  Since we will be going to Annie for our next meeting and having a presenter on 12/2, we combined Theater and Looking your Best.  For Theater, the girls became Mirror Mimics, did Character Charades and a Mix it up/Make it up which is pictured below.  They dressed up a member of their team using toilet paper.  Very creative they are!!  For Looking your Best, they experimented with which colors look best on them and how accessories can change their look.  I must say, they do make the cutest models in the land!!

Meeting Recap 10/21

Thursday, October 21st, we had our meeting in the gym due to Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Our troop is now 18 strong and while the gym gave us more room to spread out for the projects, it's also much louder than Mr. Otto's room.  Our focus for the day was Breast Cancer Awareness.  As our first community service project of the year, we were walking at Making Strides on Saturday.  We had three projects for this meeting.  Making pink pom poms, decorating visors (pink of course) and making and signing our sign.  The sign said "Shakin' it for Breast Cancer".  In conjunction with the sign, there was a group discussion about what breast cancer is, who has been affected by it and other personal experiences.
Making the pom poms took much longer than our alloted 20 minutes with each group.  Fortunately, several parents stayed to help the final tying.
We also took our first group picture with EVERYONE there.  With 18 girls, our full group opportunities might be few and far between.  I also have a silly group picture that I will upload within the next couple of days.

Roller Skating 10/19

Tuesday, October 19th, the Girl Scout Council invited all girls for a free skating night at Hoffy's Skate America as one of their registration events.  Three area councils joined in for the night and estimates had 140 girls skating.
From our troop, there were 11 girls present and a handful of parents.  Several of them participated in the speed and sock races while others used scooters and watched a movie.
Unfortunately, I left my camera at home and have no pictures of the girls.  I will note they are skating much better than the first time we went as first graders.
It was a great evening and I'm sure they all slept well that night.  :)

Meeting recap 10/7

Yesterday we working on the Girl Scouting in the USA Badge.  We talked about the Girl Scout Promise and Law.  The Girls learned the handshake and the new quiet sign.  Additionally, we picked out some ideas for our Kaper Chart.  One new thing for this year will be our Blog Helper.  Each meeting, I will have someone add things to the blog with me.  Look for that to be coming soon.......
We also worked on our plan for the year.  The girls worked in pairs to pick and plan a badge to work on this year.  They were to decided what things we would need for the badge and any possible field trips that would tie in.  I will be going through their ideas today and am quite curious to see what they picked.
We are looking forward to a great year, filled with many surprises!!!

The Search is On......

We are looking for a new name for the blog.
Any ideas?  Please share and we will vote on them as a troop!!!!
